Tadas Orentas

Tech Garage, Boca Raton

Is currently a student at Florida Atlantic University studying electrical engineering. He graduated from Park Vista community high school in Lake Worth, Florida where he was a member of the auto and medical academies, earning him his emergency response and CPR certificates. Tadas currently serves as Treasurer of the Drone Robotics club at FAU and is a member of the Owl Racing club. After school, Tadas would like to work in the robotics industry using his engineering skills to optimize everyday task. Tadas enjoys playing basketball, scuba diving, and fixing his car.

Dexter Dixon

Tech Garage, Boca Raton

Is from Riviera Beach, Florida and attended Royal Palm Beach High School. At Royal Palm Beach High School Dexter was a member of Student Government, serving as Student Body Vice President and was apart of the school’s engineering academy where he was President and started the school FIRST Robotics program. Currently Dexter is a Sophomore at Florida Atlantic University studying electrical engineering. At the university, Dexter has created the Drone Robotics club and is a Learning Community Liaison for engineering students. Dexter volunteers his time in his hometown by serving as a board member of the nonprofit Savon’s Academy Star’s. Dexter is apart of Tech Runway’s Venture Class 6 with his company Shift Board and was a finalist in the FAU Wave competition. He is the youngest of four siblings and in his free time he enjoys rollerblading and teaching himself new skills. After he graduates, Dexter wants to be able to use his skills as an engineer to make positive impacts on people’s lives.

Gunnar Bjorkman

Tech Garage, Boca Raton

Graduated from Allen D. Nease High School in St Augustine, Florida where he was a member of the engineering and hospitality academies and also was creator and captain of his high school’s FIRST Robotics team also earning his AutoDesk CAD certification. Gunnar Is currently a student at Florida Atlantic University studying mechanical engineering. At FAU Gunnar is the Vice President of the Drone Robotics club and has created and maintains the Machine Perception and Cognitive Robotics organization’s website. Gunnar is the oldest of three younger brothers and has also earned his lifeguarding certification. In his free time, Gunnar enjoys making video games and riding his electric skateboard. Gunnar is apart of Tech Runway’s Venture Class 6 with his company Shift Board and was a finalist in the FAU Wave competition with his weight-sensing electric skateboard project. After he graduates, Gunnar would like to work with startup tech companies that have the potential to release life-changing technology

Holden Gibler

Boys and Girls Club, Delray Beach

Graduated from Allen D. Nease High School in St Augustine, Florida. Previously, Holden leads his team to win the Urban Land Institutes’ competition where he was Financial Director of his team learned about the fundamental forces that affect real estate development in his community. Currently, Holden is a Sophomore at Florida Atlantic University where he is studying mechanical engineering. Holden is apart of Tech Runway’s Venture Class 6 with the company Shift Board where he takes a lead role in all business and marketing aspects of the business. Holden is also a lifeguard and has earned his CPR and Lifeguard certified through the Red Cross. After he graduates, Holden would like to work with defense contractors specializing in aviation and eventually work on space program contracts.

Mike Vilbrun

Boys and Girls Club, Riviera Beach

is from Riviera Beach Florida and is a Senior at Florida Atlantic University majoring in electrical engineering. Mike has participated in the IoT Hardware Hackathon hosted by IBM and took Hardware Circuitry Lead role on his team. His team designed a body temperature system with an accurate and cost-effective measuring system using a Raspberry Pi. At FAU Mike is the Secretary for the National Society of Black Engineers and also a member of the Owls Racing Club. Mike is also an intern at Xtreme Electronic Designs where he works in system architecture to create custom embedded microcontroller solutions.

Paul Scarpinato

Tech Garage, Boca Raton

is from Boca Raton Florida and is a Senior at Florida Atlantic University studying Neuroscience and behavior. Before coming to FAU Paul attended Georgia Institute of Technology where he studied biomedical engineering. Pauls goal is to learn all that he can through a well-rounded education with a special interest in science and technology, to fully understand the human body and bridge the gap between organic beings and electrical components. Paul has also previously had an internship at IT Services at Georgia Southern University where he aided in the maintenance of many of the technologies at the university. At FAU Paul works with the Machine Perception and Cognitive Robotics Lab and the FAU I-Sense lab where he works on various machine learning projects

Lorainda Hickson-Weekes

West Palm Beach PAL

is from Riviera Beach Florida and is currently a Junior at Florida Atlantic University. At FAU Lorainda is studying computer science and is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers. Lorainda has worked on many projects at the university including a Smart RC Car that continuously checks its surrounding and automatically avoids obstacles. In the past Lorainda has participated in Mango Hacks’ a 42 hour Hackathon where she built a website that makes a student’s schedule based upon the needs of the student such as time and day and generates a selection of schedules that the student can choose from.

Griffin McDonald

Sheriff PAL, West Palm Beach

is currently a student at Palm Beach State College studying engineering technology with an electronics focus. He graduated from Royal Palm Beach High School in Royal Palm Beach, Florida where he was a member of the engineering academy and had an apprenticeship under the IT specialist at the school.

Aidan Dickinson

Milagro Center, Delray Beach

is a Sophomore at Florida Atlantic University High School which is an extremely competitive and rigorous program where students are fully dual-enrolled at Florida Atlantic University from tenth grade through twelfth grade. Aiden has been a part of the Tech Garage program for many years and from a very young age, he has volunteered his time as a counselor at Tech Garage’s summer camps as a programming instructor. During his years participating in FIRST Tech Challenge, he has been a leader on his robotics team for over 3 years, taking on various responsibilities including, programming lead, co-designer, and video producer. At FAU High school Aidan is currently taking college courses and majoring in computer science.

William Swann

Milagro Center, Delray Beach

is a Senior at Saint Andrew’s High School. At Saint Andrew’s William is the Senior class President and a member of the Science National Honors Society. William Volunteers his time at the Spanish River church where he is the main camera operator for Sunday service sand Livestream broadcast. Before working at Tech Garage, William has interned at Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience as a Mechanical Engineer. Over the course of the 7-week internship, William has worked alongside many scientists to provide any engineering that was required for their work. William has also been a member of the Boy Scouts of America since 2012. Throughout his time as a Boy Scout William has served many leadership roles including Senior Patrol Leader, and Chaplain leading up to him becoming an Eagle Scout.

Hani Bdeir

Boys and Girls Club, Delray Beach

is currently a student at Boca Raton High School. Hani is also a dual enrolment student at Florida Atlantic University, taking college level classes. Hani has been a long time memver of Tech Garage, participating in many robotics competitions throughout the year including FIRST Robotics, Robot Drone League, and MATE Underwater Robotics. Hani was also a lead counselor in our Robotics room during our summer camp. In addition to working at Tech Garage, Hani works as an IT Technician at Mastermind Software Engineering in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Samuel Hicks

Tech Garage, Boca Raton

is from Davie, Florida where he graduated from Western High School where he provided technical assistance and helped maintain the school’s computer labs. Samual has also worked with the Parent Teacher Student Asociation, setting up various functions and activities throughout the year. Currently, Samual is a Sophomore at Florida Atlantic University studying computer science. Samual volunteers his time at the Plantation Baptist Church church where he is the main camera operator for Sunday service and assist in making Keynote presentations. After he graduates Samual aspires to become a software engineer.

Skyla Anderson

Milagro Center, Delray Beach

is a Sophomore at Florida Atlantic University High School which is an extremely competitive and rigorous program where students are fully dual-enrolled at Florida Atlantic University from tenth grade through twelfth grade. At FAU Skyla is majoring in Information Technology and Management and minoring in Spanish. Skyla has several leadership roles at FAU High School including being an orientation leader for incoming Freshmen, the Yearbook club Co-President, and has been the school’s Volleyball captain for three years. Skyla is an aspiring business student who admires engineering. In the future, Skyla would like to use her skills as a leader to manage an engineering company that works to create a positive impact on people’s lives.

Cathy Miller

Pioneer Park Elementary School, Belle Glade

is the Executive Director for the TechGarage. She has a Master of Science Degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland in College Park. Previously, Cathy Miller worked at Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico at the HIV genetic database before coming to FAU. Prior to her genetics work, Cathy was trained in Early Childhood Development at a Montessori School in Los Alamos New Mexico. She also taught in the Los Alamos Public Schools. After coming to Florida, she worked on the Primary Science IDEAS NSF grant, where she taught elementary school teacher’s science. Cathy Miller is dedicated to science, education, and helping students to gain the skills necessary to succeed in the careers in engineering, technology, and science. Cathy Miller has her private pilots license as well as CFR Part 107 Small UAS Drone License.

Robert Smith

Pearl City Cats, Boca raton

is currently a student at Florida Atlantic University studying electrical engineering. At FAU Robert is an active member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and The National Society of Black Engineers. Robert is currently working on a room monitoring system for assisted living facilities as part of his Senior design project. In addition to being a robotics coach, Robert is an academic tutor at Palm Beach State College for students in Mathematics and Physics courses. In the past, Robert has participated in the IBM Bluemix Hackathon and has worked as an admission assistant at Broward College in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
