SouthCarolinaFRC

TechGarage has 5 teams attending the Myrtle Beach, SC FRC tournament. We have chartered a double-decker coach bus for the trip given the number of people going and the logistics and cost associated with flying. The cost of transportation via the double-decker coach is $160. Please let us know if you will be traveling independently to the tournament.

It is off-season in Myrtle Beach and we have booked two seven room condos on the beach at https://www.balibayvacations.com/. We have parents/teachers from the program who have booked 2 bedroom condos at the same property if you are planning to attend and want to make a reservation. We are coordinating housing for TechGarage 5949, FAU Owltonomous 7152 and GLOW 7409. The advantage of the 7 bedroom condos(we have two) is that we have a large common area where the kids can hang out at night and be supervised by chaperones. We are planning to group by teams where it will be coed for the condo but each room will be separated by gender and opposite ends of the condo. This gives a much higher degree of monitoring than a hotel where not practical to sit in a hallway and monitor. The reality is we have amazing and responsible members in the program and we don’t expect any issues. The cost of lodging is $165 for all four nights.

We will be at the Myrtle Beach Convention center from 8 am to 6 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We are 2.5 miles to the convention center and the bus will pick us up in the morning and afternoon. We will require location tracking via Snapchat or Google for everyone who is going. Dinner will be free time for groups to eat locally where their are numerous tourist options near by. Everyone will be responsible for their own food purchase and we will have options in the morning for a quick breakfast at the condo and will coordinate making sandwiches etc for lunch if the convention center options are limited.

We encourage everyone to register ASAP where a seat on the bus is not guaranteed. We have numerous participants who have worked really hard on the robot and they are our priority for attending. If you haven’t been around TechGarage much but would like to attend please register and pay the bus and housing fee. Once we have everyone registered that is planning to go we will determine how many seats/rooms are available we will issue refunds based on capacity and participation in the six-week build. We have no interest in managing participants who are more interested in a fun trip versus building a robot. We may have open seats on the bus for parents who would like to ride with the teams and can help chaperone and volunteer at the tournament. Adults will occupy the lower level of the double-decker bus.

Departure: 7 am Wednesday February 27 from TechGarage
Return: 9 am Sunday March 3rd arrive in Boca Raton 8 PM
